Connect2ESL: Your English Language Connection

  1.

  1. What is Connect2ESL?

Connect2ESL is a site for English language learners being created by Holly Gray. Holly has an M.A. in linguistics and a B.A. in English lit. She has more than 14 years of experience in the field of ESL, including classroom and online teaching, materials writing, and curriculum design.

  2. What is the difference between online lessons and online tutoring?

When you sign up for online lessons, I send you a lesson on a specific topic and a worksheet to complete before your online session.  Then, we will go through any of your problem areas.  This structured format is great for working on writing and grammar.  General online tutoring is more open-ended.  We can work on whatever you choose.   This is a good choice if you want to work on listening, speaking, pronunciation or presentation skills.

  3. Do I have to complete an entire course?  How much time do I have?

You subscribe to a specific course for a certain period of time, such as one month.  During that time, you can work on whatever you want, whenever you want.  You can do the entire course or pick and choose the modules and exercises that interest you.  During your subscription period, you can post as many questions on the discussion board as you like.  You can also participate in online office hours in the course chat room.

  4. Why would I want to have language lessons in Second Life?

First of all, it's fun! Plus, you get to chat with your teacher in real time, either by voice or text, in a virtual 3D classroom.  You can meet other students, join social events, and go on excursions in an exciting virtual world.  You can join Second Life for free. For more information, either email Holly Gray at holly AT connect2esl.com, or enter Second Life and look up Thea Pevensey.

  5. I want to sign up!  How do I arrange online tutoring?  How do I pay?

First, either fill out the form on the contact page or email Holly directly at holly AT connect2esl.com, and we'll find a time that works for both of us. Once we've arranged a time, you can pay for your lesson using PayPal. (In Second Life, you can pay with Linden dollars if you prefer.)  You'll receive payment instructions after we've scheduled a time.

  6. I would rather have face-to-face tutoring. Is that possible?

Yes, if you are close to Fresno, California, and are willing to come to the Fresno State campus.   Holly takes on a few private students from time to time, and she has some experienced colleagues who also tutor ESL students.  If you're interested, contact Holly directly at holly AT connect2esl.com.
